Duke Graduate Programs Score High In Latest US News Rankings

Graduate and professional programs across the university also scored impressive rankings in the U.S. News & World Report annual ranking of graduate programs released today. 

Duke University School of Medicine rose to third among 122 medical schools in the nation for research.  In addition to the medical research rating, seven specialty programs in the School of Medicine placed in the top 10: Surgery (second); Anesthesiology (fourth); Internal Medicine (fifth); Radiology (sixth); Pediatrics (seventh, tied); Obstetrics and Gynecology (eighth); Psychiatry (10th). 

"These rankings recognize our outstanding faculty, staff and students and their unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional patient care, groundbreaking research and inspired teaching,” said Dr. Mary E. Klotman, dean of Duke University School of Medicine. “I am especially proud and grateful to our entire School of Medicine community for never losing sight of our core missions during this most challenging year.”

The Duke School of Nursing’s Master of Science program once again ranked highly on the magazine’s list, at third nationally, and Duke’s Doctor of Nursing Practice placed fourth.

In addition to its overall rankings, Duke’s School of Nursing had several of its master’s level specialty programs included among the top 10: Nursing Administration (first); Nurse Practitioner-Adult/Gerontology, Acute Care (first); Nurse Practitioner-Adult/Gerontology Primary Care (first); Nurse Practitioner-Family (first); Nurse Practitioner: Mental Health (first).

The Doctor of Nursing Practice specialty in leadership was also ranked first by U.S. News.

The School of Law tied for 10th overall. Among specialty programs;

  • Business-corporate law (tied for 12th)
  • Constitutional law (tied for 9th)
  • Contracts and commercial law (tied for 13th)
  • Criminal law (tied for 13th)
  • Environmental law (tied for 16th)
  • Health care law (tied for 23rd)
  • Intellectual property law. (tied for 15th)
  • International law (tied for 10th)
  • Tax law (tied for 16th)

 

The Fuqua School of Business ranked 12th.  Among specialty programs:

  • Accounting (tied for 18)
  • Business Analytics (11th)
  • Executive MBA (seventh)
  • Finance (tied for 11th)
  • International (tied for 15th)

 

Sanford School of Public Policy tied for 19th overall. Among specialty programs:

  • Environmental policy (third)
  • Health policy (eighth)
  • Leadership (tied for 27th)
  • Public policy analysis (sixth)
  • Social policy (sixth)

 

The Pratt School of Engineering ranked 24th.  Among specialty programs:

  • Biomedical engineering (third)
  • Civil engineering (tied for 26th)
  • Computer engineering (19)
  • Electrical engineering (tied for 20th)
  • Environmental engineering (tied for 14th)
  • Material sciences (tied for 26th)
  • Mechanical engineering (tied for 26th)
