2010 Major: Sociology; minor in Psychology
"Being a Sociology graduate has helped me to understand my clients and the effect of growing up in different families of origin who may not share the same values. It helped me to understand why police were so much more likely to treat black and brown persons terribly and why advocating for our clients is the most important. Learning to use my privilege as a white woman and teach my dad about his privilege as a white man has also helped us in our law practice and to become better law partners to each other. Personally it made me address my white privilege and own unconscious biases which I hope will help me to raise antiracist children and start teaching them about their own privilege from an earlier age."
"Sociology will help expand your world view and address your own biases. I went to Elon School of Law directly after graduating from Duke, and I felt like my experiences in sociology helped provide me a great foundation for learning to read critically and think about racial biases in the justice system."
