Land Named to Southern Sociological Society Roll of Honor

At the Annual Meeting of the Southern Sociological Society, April 24-27, 2013, in Atlanta, Georgia, Kenneth C. Land, John Franklin Crowell Professor of Sociology and Demography,  was named to the Society’s Roll of Honor.  Appointment to the Roll of Honor is the greatest recognition given by the Society.  This award recognizes a career of distinguished intellectual contribution to sociology.  Since 1977 only 20 individuals have been inducted, three of whom have included Duke sociologists Kurt W. Back (1989), Alan Kerckhoff (1994), and Ida Harper Simpson (2007) in addition to Ken Land.  A session honoring Ken’s contributions to sociology will be organized by Lynn Smith-Lovin and Angie O'Rand as part of the program of the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Society in Charlotte, North Carolina.
