Brian Casey, B.A. 1996

Vice President, Batten Investigations - Pinehurst, NC

1996 Major: Sociology; certificate in Markets & Management Studies

How has being a Sociology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I am an investigator, so the study of how people interact, and how they are affected by their environment, families, etc. is a valuable tool. I also took several courses on social deviance, which has also proved helpful. Professionally, having the degree from Duke has opened doors with clients that might not have been as open and receptive otherwise. Being a Duke graduate carries a lot of weight, regardless of the field you are in."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Sociology programs?

"Take advantage of the resources that Duke has to offer, especially when it comes to connections in the academic and professional world."
