Umang Dhingra Receives Scholarship to Attend Oxford University

Umang Dhingra, 2026 Duke sociology graduate, has accepted an offer to attend Oxford University beginning Fall 2026.  She received a full scholarship from Oxford’s Department of Sociology to earn her Master of Philosophy in Sociology and Demography.  While at Duke, Umang researched how child welfare policies in the United Kingdom shape low-income families’ childcare strategies.  Her Oxford training will build upon her experience analyzing statistical data and writing an honors thesis in sociology. She plans to continue using sophisticated modeling techniques to investigate how government policies impact vulnerable groups.
