My research focuses on the economic and health stratification outcomes associated with immigration. Additionally, I have published and presented research on the how China's economic transition contributes to social inequality. My dissertation research combines these two interests by asking: how do processes occurring in an immigrants home country, such as foreign asset ownership and access to transnational networks, affect Chinese, Indian, and Mexican immigrant wealth? To do so, I will use the New Immigrant Survey, a nationally representative survey of documented U.S. immigrants. Additionally, I will conduct a survey of Chinese immigrant business owners in Los Angeles.
